They list in the article the expected increase in death rates according to the changes they make to the frequency of the test. Between 16-30 deaths from 2-4-2. Deaths..... thats dead people! Mums,dads,kids, friends. People with names and lives to live. It does not include serious injury or even minor accident injury. Its mind blowing to think that they even consider valuing life against the cost of an Mot! Putting aside any vested interest we as a garage have in testing i am astounded at their attitude. Its beyond belief! To take this a cynical step forward is the minister going to send condolence letters to the bereaved families and/or injured, thanking them for the sacrifice they have made in order for the greater motoring public to save £54.85 every other year!! Every other area of industry and life in general has seem a con census to improve safety over the past few decades,WHY on earth do we even consider reducing safety in motoring. I will be inviting the Sunday Times and any politician i write to, to come and spend a day testing with us to see the state of some of the cars we test.
