They had just had the car in and now everything on the car had been reset to default apparently.
The receptionist went on to explain that the recall that had brought the car in was not for a critical software update, as their letter had said, but was for a general vehicle check, "so that we could get some work in"... this explanation was intended to convince the customer that their activities had not caused the problems the car was now showing.
I suspect that this receptionist is too honest to survive in this particular job but confirmed what we all suspect or are blatantly aware of.
