A car that has been on sorn or is just tax expired has to get to the station for a Mot, so I would have thought it is Ok as long as it is booked in.

What I would be worried about is just doing a normal job and then road testing without it being taxed, as you won't have an excuse then. I think I will end up either checking the status of Mot and road tax on this link every road test or just saying sod it.
