New autotech assessment and learning material uploaded to www.autotechnician.co.uk and technicians invited to a Big Day Out on Saturday 3rd September




Independent technicians and workshop owners are invited to join autotechnician and its team of trainers and sponsors for an informal Saturday get together, jam packed with technical presentations requested by the audience, good food and entertainment at Tool Connection in Southam, Warwickshire this September.

Numbers are strictly limited to ensure guests get hands-on practical repair advice and have the opportunity to share ideas with industry experts and fellow techs.

Repair superstars Andy Crook of GotBoost, James Dillon of Technical Topics, Frank Massey of Autoinform and Steve Smith of Pico Technology have already confirmed their slots and will create their presentations following guest requests. Steve is considering topics such as NVH issues or using a pressure transducer for fluid or in-cylinder measurement, but what would you like Pico’s top trainer and the team to present? Hundreds of technicians have so far taken up the challenge of the first autotech assessment, which comprises 30 multiple choice questions covering mechanical, electrical and diagnostic scenarios. Entrants are instantly emailed back their scores and chosen answers, along with the correct ones, and we are pleased to see that the majority achieved a score of 80% or more. All entrants who took part in the launch test were entered into a £200 prize draw, congratulations to Lee Holmes of LA Automotive Services in Doncaster who is now £200’s better off, courtesy of autotechnician magazine.


We have now launched our second assessment, which is free and completely confidential, and you’ll find this a little more testing. There are 20 questions in all, expecting mid-level experience and master tech knowledge on engine management issues and related measurements and components. We have developed this stage with Peter Coombes of Tech-Club and Steve Smith of Pico Technology, providing entrants with comprehensive supporting material along with the answers, so you can see where you went wrong and receive the information needed to better understand the topic in question.
