I visit a fair few indy garages on my travels ,and all are finding it very difficult to recruit decent staff. Most of the youngsters that have been trained on some kind of apprenticeship scheme want to move on to a different trade that gets more money for less aggravation. As an indication, our local tech college, which had a major rebuild about 10 years ago ,with a state of the art motor vehicle division and workshop, has closed down. This would appear to be where we are going in this industry, down the plug hole, and fairly quickly. The future is not bright. On another note, how many new cars will be fixable in 5 years time.?They will become uneconomic repair and will be assigned to the trash. Why do we need to know how to fix them?
