Hello Paul, what made my mind up to move on was my bonus was cut,and my wages went from 28000 to 18500,with no chance of enhancements, with experience and a family and also being 44 my career was going nowhere, backwards if anything,so I had to make a big big decision and move away from my comfort zone,so I went to college for 2 evenings a week for 2 years taking cg2351 then another full year working on a portfollio to become an approved electrician, the cost was 650 for the cg and 350 for the portfollio,it was hard because I worked in the industry as a mate for the first year on 8ph then I was given a break and moved to 10 ph now as a qualified sparky my wages have more then doubled,as far as your qualifications go Paul they dont really help as I have an HNC Electrical/Electronic engineering the biggest and most important thing in my trade is experience, its excepted that to become a good sparky you need at least 8 years on the tools and the only way you learn unfortunatly is by your mistakes
