I had a similar experience of this with the plastic idler gear failing on a 1.8 diesel, but wish I hadn't ! I could write reams about this experience.
The short version is don't get involved.
My advice would be to get the customer to call a Ford dealer and have it towed away. If a dealership does the job it's far easier and more likely to be sorted without a fuss. Whoever services the vehicle ( I assume you ? ) will get dragged into it all if he uses you as the repairer and then tries to make a claim, and believe me, no matter how strong your integrity, you'll be sorry.
