Tyres again ! Archived Message

Hi all I just wanted to ask a question further to the recent discussion about where to fit new tyres on a vehicle, front or rear ( see link below to read original thread on this subject ) Just had a Discovery 300TDi in for new rear shocks & two new tyres. Vehicle came in with budget 8ply tyres on front ( Maxima or something ) and G.Y. reinforced Wranglers on rear. Tyre size is 205/16. I fitted the shocks and identical new Wranglers to the rear and the vehicle drove like a boat with loads of over steer, it was scary. Swapped the Maxima's to the rear and the Wranglers to the front and it drove perfect. Only difference is the Wranglers I took off were made in UK, the ones I put on were made in S Africa. All other spec's printed on tyres were identical. My question is can anyone offer a reason for this ? What happened here is the opposite of what the tyre manufacturers are trying to avoid by recommending new tyres ALWAYS to the rear. Thanks in advance Dave
