hi paul iv done 2 of these and it wasnt pleasent.. one of them needed a new flywheel as the teeth were all mashed up. other was just a starter. it is possible to get the starter off with out removing the gear box, but you have to take off the downpipe, the turbo and the manifolds. allowing for rusty nuts , bleeding knuckles and nuts in impossible places, you should get it done in about 8 hrs. last time i priced a starter from jeep they wanted over £600 if its really noisy, id change the starter and the flywheel togethor, otherwise u could end up putting another starter on for nothing after the shaft has snapped because of poor meshing of the teeth
