But it's like many areas of an MOT, so many things need to change. For example, we can fail a car for having a big furry ( but removable ) dice hanging from the rear view mirror, but something as electrically and chemically hazardous as a battery isn't even a testable item.
Besides, wait until the computerisation hits the scene, timed/tracked tests, one allocated test unit for one test bay...stations won't be able to do more tests than there are hours in a day unless they have two test bays & two testers ( 1 hr per test inc paperwork is the accepted norm ). Timed/Tracked retests....who will still be offering free retests when all this kicks in ???
What about 'larger garages' who are charging in excess of £80 per hr that suddenly HAVE to leave a man tied up on an MOT for an hour when they can only charge a max fee set by the ministry that is well below their hourly rate ?
