Hi Tom, I like John have had a fluid boiling incident when I was racing, using near standard brakes and so I would agree that it would probably have to be extreme circumstances that would cause this problem under normal conditions (although there are a lot of heavy braking youths out there!). Having said that I agree that as a safety item it is quite a simple and effective way of eliminating a 'potential' failure. In response to your concern about damaging seals by piston travel into a corroded part of the master cylinder bore you can eliminate this by using a pressure/vacuum bleeding system and therefore not necessitate any piston travel at all.
