    Peter, you comment as follows is interesting:

    If you report that the brakes are worn out/fluid leakage or suspension ball joints are faultly etc. and the customer declines the repair, and something BAD happens, you can be held liable for allowing "a vehicle in an unsafe condition to leave your workshop".

    I don't know if this is the case in the UK but it has happened in OZ.

    I would check with my solicitor and get the exact wording that needs to be placed on an invoice for declined repairs that a real safety issues, if indeed "any wording" will cover you in these cases.
