As a non testing station u still get my share of cars for MOT and take them to a fair garage for test, but i am becoming more and more perplexed by what will pass and what will not. I am generally coming to the conclusion that the standard of cars on the road must be going down, firstly it is the wishbone bushes that have split and would have an acdverse affect on the steering brakes etc are now passed on the basis that they cannot break out, as i understand can only be failed if completely broken up. Now today a small van has got some holes in the floor which now pass as they are not in the presrcribed area yet the vehicle has no chassis therefore the strenght must be in the floor pan. These are just acouple of things that have come to light there are plenty more, things that we would fail in service yet they are passed on the test Just wondered what your thoughts on the subject were or am i the only one concerned about the standards.
