    Hi Peter

I posted about this a few months ago, time tracked testing via the computer will mean you HAVE to do a full retest. No one is going to pay a tech to do a free one, and lets be honest, they are only free now because we aren't that closely monitored, and the ministry know it.

If we weren't so self destructive as a trade, free retesting would never have happened anyway, but we have developed a culture where we feel the need to lower our worth by constantly undercutting each other to get the job.
Testing becomes rushed, retesting is free and quick, other jobs subsidise what we loose by undercharging, ultimately the customer suffers the poor standards we have forced on ourselves.

Testing ( or repairing ) vehicles to the correct standard isn't cheap. The public want it cheap, so something has to give, it doesn't take a brain surgeon to work it out does it.
But, as soon as something goes wrong, we get all the grief for a job we made naff all doing in the first place, and then all the cost of rectifying it afterwards. Why do we do this to ourselves ? All this responsability compromised to save someone ( who probably earns more that us anyway ) a few quid

Computerization Kelly, will sort a lot of these isues out. Yes, it will be a laugh co's it's bound to go wrong but the effect will be a revolution for the MOT stations. Some will be glad of it ( that's me! ) and some will fear it ( the 20 tests a day garages ).

Just for the record, can I just add that we do a FULL retest at our place

    Off me soap box now

    Dave F
