Hi if you are using these for VAG COM, the old cables require an unlock code from Uwe Ross, & will only do single k line vehicle ecus. newer cars have twin k lines for more ecu access.
The lead doesn't buy you software useage, so would have to pay $100 (I think) to unlock a shareware version of VAG-COM. Shareware is limited (see website for full details).
A lot of people have upgraded to the newer cable, hex com, which uses a dongle for activation, thus the old leads aren't needed. I still use my old one for an EOBD program, & hex com lead for VAG-COM.
