Hi Mark, one of the prime reasons RAC are looking for a respected dealer network is to get people going again. Too many cars are now becoming nigh on impossible to replace alternators/starter motors and various replacable components at the roadside. Since off-loading the Lex workshops (hooray), it's getting difficult to find garages capable of doing repairs at short notice.
I believe in the not to distant future, instead of offering a member a recovery, they will be offered a percentage off the replacement item, (lets face it, they've still got to get home if recovered and pay for the replacement the part). Hopefully, this will save the customer money and we get a happy customer with a fixed car at a reduced price.
Now this is going to be open to abuse, so it's being policed very very closely (it's been on trial down south for a while), and has proved to be extremely popular.
Secondly, the RAC warranty, is being pushed more next year, and again if we have an approved garage network, it'll hopefully allow you free reign to replace parts without hours of endless phonecalls trying to get authorisation for repairs.

    Regards Tony

Bear in mind these are just my ramblings of the situation as I see it,
and no assumption should be taken that it'll actually happen
    Merry Christmas
