    Hi Colin

    We do risk assessments a couple of times a year, and keep a log of changes and improvements ( control measures ) we make. This demonstrates your working towards a standard and that's what the HSE want to see.
    As for the 'firm' that you commissioned to do the assessment for you I would imagine they have given you the kitchen sink scenario so that they cover their backs. I know it all changes when you pass the 5 employee's mark and not being there I'm not familiar with all the legislation.

    The best thing to do is contact your local HSE and ask them to come over. Talk to them about the situation and you will most likely find them very helpful ( and free ! )
    If you go to them, they are usually very supportive, it's when they come to you that you need to worry
