Peter. Answering the question from a business point of view flushing is bad. The engine breathes too clean, less contamination on throttle body, IAC/ TPS and sticky piston rings etc. Therefore less parts to replace. Also from 40 years in the trade I have had no experience of a flushed out engine coming to grief. That includes Test Bed experience at Rolls Royce. Whereby engines mainly competitors were tested to destuction. It,s surprising how long a good engine will run without oil ??. (Dont,t try this at home folks) It also surprised me then how engines run at redline revs for many hours taken from the test rig stripped and found to have negligible wear as against engines stopped and started repeately on cold running. The latter were found to have carbon contamination, mainly upper engine & valve train areas. Returning to the use of a flushing agent. On vehicles with iffy compressions but other mechanically sound I put the flush in several days before the service. It never effected oil & pressure readings on the beds and yes we did test Ford & Rover engines. But boy did the Dyno readings increase. Hope this puts your mind at rest. Derek
