Just having a view of this legislation and I came across this: "Changes are significant in respect of after-sale services too. The link between sale of cars and after-sale services are cut so as to allow dealers to decide whether they do both or whether they subcontract after-sale servicing to official repairers (i.e. those who met the criteria set out by the car manufacturer). Car manufacturers may not prevent independent repairers to become official repairers in so far as the requirements are met, nor can they prevent repairers from repairing other brands. Independent repairers must be given access to information, tools, equipment and training to repair the manufacturerÂ’s brands under the same and nondiscriminatory conditions than those applied to official repairers. Spare parts for cars may not only be provided by car manufacturers, but repairers may also obtain spare parts from other sources with some exceptions." It would appear (but I may be wrong) that you have to be an "official" repairer to gain access to the information.
Now does this mean you have to pay the ridiculous amounts of cash some are asking for to become "an official" repairer. Now if that the case, and this is deemed as a legal definition for an "official" repairer, then you, who don't pay the "ransom money" are screwed - big time!! HTH Peter Wright
