    Hi Andy,

Yes it was very entertaining. Most of the cars came from the UK. There was a regular class there for them but we just built ours for this one event. We used to bring a huge trailer full of spares and still often managed to run out. Everyone helped each other out, like I said, great spirit.

I have some great memories of the event, like sneaking out to rescue a stricken car, crawling through long grass so as not to be seen. Changing an engine in 17 minutes in the dead of night. Then there was a guy from the UK who came in to pit and found his crew asleep and no replacement driver.

One night we blew an engine and didnÂ’t have a spare, we had used them all. One of the lads went on the scrounge and came back with a motor, fitted and back on the track. A short time later we had an angry visitor to our pit screaming something about his race engine. Turned out his girlfriend had told my mate to take an engine from the truck and he did, he just took the nice clean painted one. Our visitor was not amused when we pointed out his engine was not lapping very quickly. I think someone bought him a pint afterwards, as well as bought the engine.

It was motor sport in its purist form, very hard work but bloody good fun.

    Cheers

    Alan
