Customers - making something complex sound simpleArchived Message

Hello all
I came across the following some time ago and found that it can help when communicating to non-technical customers, making something quite complex sound relatively simple.
Just wondering if anyone else has something along these lines which they find works?
An engine warning lamp is a little like a fire alarm in a multi-storey building. When the alarm bell goes off it simpy means that there's alarm, it doesn't necessarily mean that there is a fire, however, the alarm warrants investigation. If the alarm is ligitimate and there is a fire, it does NOT tell us where it is, what caused it nor how to extinguish it.
