I am not in a motor trade association but I have spoken to an FSB solicitor, who was not very hopeful. I also contacted Trading Standards and had a good chat with them - the lady I spoke to found it hard to understand how I could be accountable, but admitted to not being a lawyer. They run a local scheme here for vetted traders so I have asked for details. If we do not have national licensing yet, I reckon this may be the next best thing in the meantime. It will certainly mean more to local people than the motor trade associations I think. Yes, I do have insurance but I'm not going to roll-over yet. It's my reputation as well as the loss of considerable no-claims. I now have to await the brown envelope I guess. Regards, Steve
