Which report on Garage Trade! Archived Message

Posted by Rob Drinkwater (CAFTEC) on December 21, 2004, 6:05 pm

As many of you will remember, I have been having a slow & protracted dialogue with the editor of Which? Magazine, regarding the inaccurate report into the garage trade a few weeks ago, I have today received another e-mail from her, which I suspect will be the last I receive from her, as it appears they don't give a monkeys about the truth. My reply to her is also below.

    Hello Rob,

I appreciate your comments and again contacted the researcher for their response, which is below:

"We have spoken to the inspectors who inspected the cars and they say that they were influenced by the comments made in the Glasses (sourced from Renault). Thank you for your comments and we will bear them in mind for any future mystery shopping exercises that we carry out. Nevertheless, the trust of our criticism of the garage that it was apparently treating the car as a 'cash cow' remains.

"Unfortunately, we cannot give out the details of the car that was used in our research. This is because we wish to ensure that our members (who took their cars in for the service) remain anonymous."

I'm not sure what else we can add to appease your view of our report and it's findings, but do come back to me if you feel there is anything else to comment on.

    Regards,

    Dear Dawn,

I have to say that it appears that once again Which? Magazine doesn't give a toss about the truth, only what sells magazines, I suppose it's just like the tabloid newspapers, the boring truth doesn't warrant interest, whereas inaccurate half truths DO.

I will let you know now, that all our previous correspondence has been posted to a website catering to the automotive trade, this one will join it & will once again confirm the completely incredible nature of your article.

    Kind regards Rob Drinkwater.
