Hi Iain, I am currently looking into the possibillities of being able to reprogramme or 'flash upgrade' certain types of controller chips! I have bought a little kit which has some very good adaptors for a vast amount of popular chips. I have only just got this kit and am currently studying the software which came with it. I have found a few websites that give info on various chipsets etc, and a good friend has also sent me some info as well! As you can imagine, the possibillities may be endless. The kit I bought has already got software for mileage correction, VAG immobiliser coding and some radio de-codes from 'dump' files as well! The only fear is that it can be very easy to 'buggar' a chip or even dash or ECU or radio head unit by not getting the programme right. So it's early days yet and may be a long time before I am brave enough to try the first re-programme, but a good mate of mine has a spare VW golf dash that he's gonna let me have a go at first. I'm sure that others have thought of going down this route, especially with ECU coding etc! Have any other techs done any? Many thanks in advance, Gunner.
