Made the mistake of the year this week and fitted the head gasket on a 2000- mk2 Fiat Punto 1.2 8v head back to front (it will fit both ways),should have looked for the small oil feed hole at the front of the head... complete cam bearing meltdown, head completely US. I managed to source a used head from a breakers but in the end it was like I had done the head gasket for nothing and given the Customer £200 in the process.
I was completely wrecked and should have taken a day off but NO we must press on us self employed independants.
In mitigation the gasket is asymetrical or is that ampidextrous... any way it fits both ways and has no markings (top, front etc)and the head I sourced had done 7,000 less miles than the original, So always look on the bright side of life..DeDum..DeDum..DeDum DeDum DEDum, With the emphasis on DUMB.
Slightly fed up but no longer suicicdal Dave.
