Most customers don't know the difference between a service and mot. they chouse a garage normally by recommendation or distress, they see it as somewhere to get there car fixed and as a good repairer you do your best for that NEW or ESTABLISHED customer. We have progressed into new markets as time, money and training has allowed.
Opening a MOT bay cost a fortune but we could see the returns, then it was a tyre bay to compliment it.
We decided to get into air con as customers were asking for it.
As a business i have to consider budgets/wages ect.
We have limited diagnostic equipment partly do to its high cost and coverage.
Most electrical faults we can sort out by use of our limited equipment and volt meter, if not we get a specialist,as the same for large welding jobs, body work, auto boxes, nothing new there!
I remember a few years ago when the mk3 escort with electronic ign came out, people were saying that will kill off the independents.
well we have moved on apace since then and were still here.
you boys may be diagnostic specialists but don't get to cocky.
    Tony
