I run a small Auto Electrical business in West Sussex which includes both mobile and workshop facilities. Unfortunately, the lad I have working for me has chucked in the proverbial towel and decided to move onto pastures new. This has left me with a serious problem, if I'm unable to replace him, I'll have to give up the workshop as I can't support the overheads on my own. We've tried advertising in the local papers, job center etc, but so far no luck. I know my job is a sort of niche area of the motor trade, but there must be someone out these who's looking for a job! I have seen a couple of recruitment agencies advertising in the IMI magazine and I would be interested in any feedback as to their effectiveness. Alternatively, if anyone is looking for a job as an Auto Electrician, let me know.

hi i own a garage and my wife works in a recruitment agency i had always said i would not use one but after trying to source staff over the last few years i am slowly coming around to the idea, good points 1) not wasting time on first interviews and phone calls tying up your time 2) big agencys cover nationwide and can possibly catch someone that you would miss moving to your area especially when looking for a specialist 3)when you add up your costs time advertising etc it gets expensive, but there are also a lot of downsides 1)expense usually between £1500 to £3000 but you can barter 2) you need to spend time telling them exactly what you want but they are not in the motor trade so cannot unless good get to involved in the technical q,s and do not know if the applicant is giving the right answers, 3)you would still need to give the finalists a good interview and also ask to see the cv of the ones that didnt get through one may have slipped the net 4)if after a few weeks you can get rid if not suitable and refuse to pay fees. there are lots of other pros and cons but these days it very dificult to find good qualified staff so best of luck ps you only have to pay when they have filled the placement so if you are going to try you may as well sign up with a few cheers nick
Thanks for your reply Nick. I thought it might be expensive! Luckily, I've now found someone to take on. The next challenge is to see how good they are.... oh, the joys of staff
