Training Courses---Recommendations please

Hi, I am looking to go on some training courses, engine management, scope, CAN etc. and am based in the south east.
Has anyone been on the Picoscope 2 day or any of the V-Tech courses?
Any other recommendations, thanks.

Hi
Scope training Frank Massey, he also does engine management and possibly CAN course. Bosch courses are very good also. Frank will also give you advice on scopes and possibly save you a lot of money with the correct choice.

james dillon of tech topics does really good scope courses and diesel engine management

yes i have heard that, but if it is just diesel courses you need then bosch or delphi are the two main diesel manufactures with two top trainers. As for scopes only done Franks courses but with his advice have got scopes that are a lot better than most automotive scopes.

Hello folks,

The main advantage of the diesel courses we run is that they cover the four main electronic diesel control systems (not just Bosch or Delphi systems) and the training is run in state-of-the-art training facilities.

Also, they are designed to help you fix cars, they are practically based and not primarily theory based. We use a variety of diagnostic equipment such as flow meters, current probes, scopes, scan tools and leak off testers (we do not sell equipment).

You are welcome to bring your own diagnostic equipment on the course (again a unique feature of our training) so that you can learn on the equipment you will be using back at the workshop.

The training we run is very 'Real World', we aim to make it enjoyable and relevant. We have had many hundreds of satisfied technicians through our training program and look forward to training many hundreds more.

We run the training on Saturdays so that the workshop doesn't have to close for the day, or that a days productive labour isn't lost.

Hello Martin

Have been on the 2 day pico engine management course last year and was disappointed.

But i would recommend their pico 1 day scope course If you already own a pico scope, just so you know how to get the best from it.

Would agree with martin young about the Technical topics courses
If their common rail course is anything to go by I went on last week i would certainly Recommend them for anything!

i would recomend james dillons techtopics courses to anyone,i have been on the common rail diesel course, and the scope course,now just waiting for the next course,found the previous ones great,

Hi there , thanks to all of you who have responded. I really wasn't expecting such a fast response.
I have had a Picoscope for about 7 months now and find it excellent.
No feedback on the V-tech courses yet then.
Am I right in thinking that the Frank Massey courses are way up north somewhere?
Probably the disappointing courses are well worth knowing about too so as not to waste time and money.
Keep them coming please as I feel this will be useful to others.

Been on 1 v-tech course - wouldn't do it again (not saying anymore than that) been on 1 James Dillon course, wouldn't hesitate to go again.

I would also recomend tech topics,also they do an excellent scope training book which i am presently absorbing. Cant beat hands on training but you can never hope to remember it all afterwards,and this book covers it all again in great detail so you can take it all in at your own pace. Over £30 quid ,but well worth it if your serious about learning the mysteries of scopeing. GEORGE

George, I got that book after recommendations from UKAT members, well worth it and I refer to it regularly.
I have just bought the new book from Picoscope website "Advanced Automotive Fault Diagnosis" by Tom Denton. 270 pages covering engine, chassis, A/C, transmission and EOBD.
Will let you know when I've read it.

Cheers martin. Pico book is on my shoping list too as is a few new test leads ect from pico,but as i seem to have spent most of my mrs new kitchen fund on various new bits of kit for the workshop recently,me thinks i best wait till next month! GEORGE

Franks Massey also runs his course "way down south" at Luton college speak to Jean and she will fill you in on dates and locations.
