Any pass thru system can only be as good as the server that you access to use it. I know a man who used the BMW one with the EDIC card. He had serious problems with the server, bad enough to render it useless.
Remember it is a dedicated server that the VM's have been forced to provide. I think that they are unlikely to be too worried about it's quality.
If you are serious about this I would suggest you look into the cost aspect of it very carefully.
As regards buying the Actia. If you are looking for an aftermarket scan tool then by all means consider the Actia but if all you want is a pass thru interface then I would suggest you look elsewhere. In a recent thread here Actia UK have posted that they will not sell the interface on it's own but it is available elsewhere. There are also a number of other options for pass thru. Google is your friend.
