what do you know
Posted by thomas stevenson on May 12, 2007, 12:06 pm had a phone call from one of my customer's his car is in the dealers a no starter,they have had the car two day cant find why it wont start. the car is a pasatt19dpdi 30,000 06 plate the point is he asked for for a car until his is ready but was told that by getting his servicing out with the dealer he loses that privileges. I use there parts, and in there parts club.

Posted by Peter Warman on May 12, 2007, 12:52 pm, in reply to "what do you know" This type of thing is going to be a big problem, the main dealers are going to start holding the motoring public to ransom over the next few years, the dealers have finally cottoned on to the inability of the scan tools we buy to do the job, they know that nearly all new vehicle have Can systems that have modules for such things as lighting, indicators, CD player, door locks etc They have watched as tool vans and motor factors have sold £1 to 2.5K scanners to "fast fits" "fred in the shed" "mr dodgy mobile" and "independents" with the limited ability to code read, limited live data and very limited coding The dealers are now fighting back by offering a FREE code read, if they fix the vehicle, they know for sure an Independent will charge a minimum of £35 to £50 to code read, but will probably be unable to fix at the end of the day, they will HAVE to take it to a dealer and pay a very high price for repair This is why the PUBLIC and INDEPENDENTS need to be aware of the "Right to Repair Campaign" in order for the public to be able to have a choice of who repairs their vehicle Most Independent say well "we have not had to code anything in yet" well believe me over the next couple of years we will all see many, coding in modules will be as common as code reading The livelihood of the Independent is being threatened by manufacturers ploys with technology Peter PS: i heard a local Independent from me had a long standing customer with a BMW that had a headlight on all the time, it needed a new module, which he could not fit, they took it to the local BMW garage, it cost £350 just to put the light off.......scary , they are charging £126:00+ an hour
