I would also like to hear of any cases where oil has been spilt because a drum has sprung a leak!

Did you have it under control quickly?

I have been given conflicting info on the requirement for 205 litre barrels to be mounted on a bund. My oil Rep assures me that it is only barrels that are situated outside (under cover) & those close to drains that need to be bunded. Barrels that are in the workshop are ok to be free standing.

I have taken what I consider to be realistic measures, but I think that if I had a visit from a "Jobs Worth" Environmental person then I would be in for a slap.

A local car trader had a visit last week after he was seen disposing of a battery in his wheelie bin. They went through him like a dose of salts. He mentioned to me when he was letting off steam at my place that I would be “in for it” if they saw where my scrap tyres are stored. Apparently they should not be stored within 10 meters of a perimeter fence, in case some scroat decides he is going to torch them. That would mean that I would have to stack them in the middle of the car park.
