How's business?
Posted by Sean Connelly on October 12, 2007, 8:52 am Just wanted to know if everyone is still busy or has there been a bit of a lull in business? We have plenty of repair/servicing work, but MOTs have gone a bit quiet. Not that its a problem as we have staff on holiday at the moment. Just wondering if its local to us or national? Could just be the calm before the storm of course.... Cheers Sean.

Well How,s Business, we are about 60% down and have been for some time, and so are the other guys in this area, the only people who have work are those who are buying it (doing it for nothing) in my eyes, but they seem to charge a little per hour but make a big bill at the end of it! I do not know how they get away with it! But Alas times and things are a changing! Regards Chris

Posted by Joe McGeoghan on October 12, 2007, 8:12 pm, in reply to "How's business?" We're usually busy, still are. MOTs went a bit quiet end of August/early Sept but have picked-up to normal level (approx 10 per day) Tyres have gone a little quiet. I no longer look for trends - you can find an excuse for every week of the year: holidays, run-up to Xmas, etc, etc. It all levels-out in the end. We're very busy with what I would consider 'tricky stuff'..which is why I'm the sad old git working at 8pm on a Friday night instead of giving the Guinness a bashing. ... A situation I intend to rectify very shortly. Cheers! Joe

Re: How's business?
Posted by Steve Nicholas on October 13, 2007, 8:00 am, in reply to "Re: How's business?" Work is up and down as usual. At the moment I think people are generally more concerned about servicing their mortgages than their cars. I usually check with reps calling in whether it's just me or a local trend - at the moment everyone round here is a bit quieter. Except for the few who charge next to nothing (according to their ads) and take on anything going. Personally, I would rather be a bit poorer than stressed like some guys are. I am definitely doing fewer jobs but they are higher value - I am also getting in a few unusual cars. Currently a Panther Kallista with a list of work needed. Hopefully, my reputation for taking pride in work like this will continue to spread - the fast-fits can't (or wont) touch them! Next month I'll probably be so rushed again I'll think I'm twins! Nihil illegitimi carborundum (Always buy genuine grinding paste!) Regards, Steve
