Service Industry Job Losses #

Inaddition Chris, the service sector looks like it is going to take a big hit with job losses through 2009, leaves your scheme dead in the water does it not??

Any suggestions for getting the service sector moving again, particularly the Motor Trade?

It does bemuse me when i see all the Motor Companies queuing up for handouts of $billions, what for?? how will that get people to buy cars, it will just be wasted paying off their creditors

How about the government set up special loans for people to buy vehicles, with interest rates down to 1.5% surely $billions would be better spent getting vehicles moving, the government own half the banks anyway so they can go guarantor

No vehicle sales = No jobs

This is going to be a make or break year for a lot of the big players, Nissan Sunderland today , the most efficient car producing plant in the UK, lays off 1200 workers, the big manufacturers cannot sell new units because everyone is in fear of their jobs.The US may lead the way with bailouts but I can't see the UK government doing the same here,the car repair industry has always played the poor cousin for whatever reason I don't know, but it has.I have lost within 20 miles, Land Rover, Volvo, Fiat within the last 4 weeks, I am busier as a result but we need these dealers and they are dissapearing fast !!

Might be a controversial suggestion in our service/repair sector, but perhaps rather than handing money directly to the manufacturer, an incentive is offered to anybody with a vehicle over 10 years old to dispose of it, when purchasing a new one.
Not only selling new vehicles. but perhaps improving road safety as well.
