Hi everyone,
Below is the text from a BBC press release I recieved today. It sounds like a good concept for a TV show if it portrays the motor trade in a positive way. I am meeting the production team on Monday so I will post any more info that I get. It could be an opportunity for any budding young stars that any of you may have.

CALLING ALL MECHANICS The search is now on for the UK's top young talent in an ambitious new television programme, Young Mechanic of the Year 2009, which celebrates the millions of young British workers whose skills aren't the kind to win them a million pound recording contract. Young Mechanic of the Year is part of a new BBC Three series celebrating young trade talent across the country. The series which also features Chefs, Butchers and Hairdresser has been dubbed ‘Chop Idol’ and it will celebrate our country’s young unsung heroes.
There are talent shows for dancers, singers and entertainers but what about all those who never see the limelight?
If you are a talented young mechanic we want to hear from you. Or if you know someone who fits the bill please get in touch.
We are looking for someone who can be a true ambassador for their trade, who is aged 16-25 years, up for a challenge and wants to show the world their skills!

Hi Mark,
Sounds a good idea. Don't think I have seen this concept involving mechanics before. Are you hoping to take part? If so best of luck.
I met two of the BBC production team this evening and chatted about the show they are creating.
They are busy researching our trade and coming up with ideas for tasks and challenges for the young contestants.
I am told that a member of their team will be at the Frank Massey conference on Sunday 22nd Feb. So this will be your chance to ask questions and get more info about the show if you are going.
As Pete said it sounds like a good concept and they are keen to get it 'right'. See above for entry details, imagine being able to promote your self or business by saying 'as seen on TV!!'
