Where have all the mot tests gone #

Hi

We seem to be down on our mot tests from this time last year dec/jan/feb anyone else the same,we had a vosa visit in december and he told me mot tests were 30% down on the same time last year.

Any comments please

Morning Terry,

I suspect the following:

1) You are being undercut. I have seen MOT's going for £30 around here.

2) New cars are still selling very well.

3) Owners cannot afford to MOT their cars.

I do find 30% an unrealistic figure though.

Keep that belt tightened...

hi pete one of the things which his happening are small 1+2 band garages are dropping out of the difficult to repair side and taking the easey cmoney we have a dramatic increase of test stations over the last 12 months we have gone from 1 class seven to 6,so who knows what lies ahead.terry

Two new MOT stations have opened up around here in the last 6 months. One charging £25 per MOT, but he's welcome to them, at that price he gets all the old nails, with no money to repair them either. He's over zealous with everything, and upsetting a lot of people!

I do wonder if it's as a result of the scrappage scheme of 3-4 years ago? Meaning those that were outside the dealer network, are currently being retained by them?

We use to do 8 tests per day and have done that for the last two years almost. Since August last year we have been down to 4 and 5 per day. The dealers have retained lots of customers since the scrap age scheme by tying them in with extended warranties. I have been to two dealerships today and they are flat out.

We too are down on the number of tests we do and have found quite a lot of customers who previously had 2 cars are now making do with 1 due to ever tightening purse strings!

Our MOT tests down by maybe 50%
I agree that the dealers seem to be retaining a lot of the business since the scrappage scheme by tying customers into service contracts, etc.
Hoping it will turn round eventually.
