Paying to be listed in the classified of BT Phone Book #

Just a minor query in the scheme of things but interested to know if you think there is much value in being listed in the classified section of the phone book?

A charge has been introduced (£122.88 plus VAT) so we now have to decide whether to opt out. We will still be listed in the A-Z section.

I am not convinced that many people still use yellow pages. I never, ever refer to it. I always use the internet for phone numbers or recommendations for trades people.

I am erring on opting out? Anyone else having second thoughts now a charge has been introduced?

I opted out years ago, don't waste your money.

I also opted out.

Far better to spend the money on local adverts at such as a Pantomime or Horticultural show.

A bit of a crafty approach I think - 'you are in unless you opt out'. Had it been left to Ian I think he would have thought the leaflet was junk mail and not paid attention until we noticed a charge on our telephone bill.

We will opt out and I doubt we will notice any difference whatsoever.

I think these days, most people rely on personal recomendation, not taking a chance on picking a number from a directory, so all they need is a way of getting your contact details.
We are not renewing any paper directorys.

Rang to cancel listing with Classified and they have reduced cost from £30.72 to £14.55 per quarter (more than half) which for that amount I may reconsider and properly monitor for the year.

Also mentioned the fact a business has to actively opt out rather thank opt in (not upfront in my opinion) and the rep did say they have had a lot of feedback regarding that issue and were going to 'act' on it. In fact they really should seek a yay or nay answer just in case a business has a real need to be listed

If enough businesses do opt out, then it is going to be a rubbish 'reference' book anyway.
