We have a 2003 VW Polo 1.4 16V (BBY) Auto that intermittently throws up the following fault code: "17961 - Barometric / Manifold Pressure Signals: Implausible Correlation P1553 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent".

Suspect from reading previous postings that incorrect tension of the twin timing belts may cause this fault code. I will check this as a matter of priority but before reading the posts I checked the inlet manifold vacuum at idle: the mityvac gave a value of approx 16 in. Hg. This seems a bit low to me, can anyone confirm that I should be getting something closer to 20 in. Hg.? Thanks, Barney.
