If you measure the resistance of the heater circuit, you will be able to work out what the amps draw should be, for example if the resistance was 10 ohms, divide your battery voltage (13v say) by the resistance reading - so 13/10 = 1.3 amps.
Bear in mind that the resistance may alter as the sensor gets hotter.
