I can confirm that it is possible for the ECUs to cause this fault. Depending on the one fitted , some versions have had 4 or 5 hardware updates. We are currently selling lots of these ECUs and this is one of the most common faults. The other possibility (apart from mechanical faults referred to by Tony above)is ignition coil pack problems. On this subject - need I say it - be aware of Non-Genuine coil packs.
