Bit of history on this one first. Engine had hard start and overheating problems, radiator leaking. Compression checks showed all four cylinders were down, engineering company said these survive overheating with just a set of rings and dont damage the bores, so i purchased the complete kit to set up chain and all three variable shafts and the kit to remove the shafts to allow removal of the valves. There were lots of bits in these 2 kits and it looked complicated at first, but not too bad when i got going on it. Removed head and found all four bores finished, just my luck, expensive gamble buying that setting kit. Customer took car away to a company up essex somewhere, where an engine was supplied and fitted for next to nothing, hmmm quality workmanship im sure.
Anyway, car now back and running well. Went to pick it up the other day to MOT it, struggled to start and wouldnt rev above about 1200 rpm. Switched it off and started it again, still the same, switched off and started a few times and eventually all was ok, but still had MIL light on.
The following faults were stored.
P2731 - Function, camshaft control inlet.
P2781 - Camshaft sensor, inlet
P285E - variable valve gear - control module, INT fault.
2865 - Power supply limit VVT - emergency.
All faults cleared ok and havent returned. The engine revs up ok, but still feels a little bit flat low down when the throttle is opened wide open.
Only found 1 posting with similar fault, Dave McGee 23rd July, 2009.
