Year of Manufacture *: 2002
Engine Size and Code *: 316 N42
( Optional ) ECU Type: ME9
( Optional ) Scanner Used: Win-Star
( Optional) Fault Codes: 285A, 2866
This car has EML light on and codes
285A Variable Valve Gear-Monitoring/Servomotor
2866 Variable Valve Gear-Learning, Stops Necessary
The garage first looked at this car, found that the monitoring sensor was at fault and replaced it.
After reassembling the car that same faults are logged.
I removed the rocker cover and found that the motor was stuck on full adjust, I freed the motor and checked it on the bench. I also checked the wiring from the VVG ECU to the motor and the VVG sensor.
On live readings when I moved the cam the readings did change.
With the rocker cover still off I switched on the ign and watched the motor set it self. Both fault codes deleted.
After putting the car back together it started and ran correctly, for about five min, then I heard the VVG motor run and the EML came back on. Both codes are back and will not delete.
Having not done much on this system I am not sure where to go now. Win-Star does have a adaption setting for the VVG and I have tried this.
Will this system self adapt? I have driven it for about 20 min but no luck.
Your thoughts would be great.
Simon
