Hi Darren, Good work,and yes you are right without a scope you would not have "seen" the fault.

However you are forgetting the most important thing and that is the time you have invested in playing with the scope and understanding the waveforms.

I have lost count of the number of people that I have come across that own or have access to a scope and never or very rarely use it !!

Come on lads you won't get good with it, all the time that it is still in the box.
