Similar situation on a Gen II. I struggled to find the fuel pump relay as none of the wire colours at the pump appear at the fuseboard. On the Gen II I stripped out the carpet in the offside rear passenger footwell near the B pillar and found a tacky little 4 way connector for the fuel pump where the wires changed colours. It had all melted. I cut and soldered the wires and changed the blocked fuel filter. All then OK
