Thanks for the suggestion but yes I have (by testing the voltage at alternator body to B+). I have taken a waveform today with the control wire disconnected and it is the same (about 15% duty cycle) but is steady all the time. I have taken the plunge and ordered a replacement, so will post waveform and results tomorrow.
