Use your compression tester hose with valve core removed and connect up an air line hose to it. You can just jubilee clip a hose onto it for a rough test.

obviously a gauge for percentage of leak is better but at least you'll beable to hear any escaping air either through valves or through header tank.

Done this many times before I bought a proper tester.
