1996/97 AEX engine. This is the one with the hall effect distributer on the end of the cam and the coil/amplifier pack on the bulkhead.
Car runs for 1 second then cuts out. Fault Code 17978 'Engine Control Unit Blocked'. Fault code when cleared returns immediately when you try to restart.
This has an infra-red lock/alarm system that does not work even with new batteries. Re-programming the key by turning in the lock is not possible as something has been forced into the barrel and doors are locked using passenger side.
I think it is a case of the chip in the key not turning off the immobiliser when inserted in the ignition. If you agree where next? Can I bypass the chip/recognition system or can I get the immobilser part of the ECU (Bosch Motronic) taken out. Any help appreciated.
