Have you replaced the fuel pump relay?
As has been said, if it monitors the switched side of the relay and if the relay is failing could it cause this fault code?
Also is P1404 a red-herring? or because it cannot control fuel pump operation (via relay) it's assuming ECU failure?
Just another few coals for the fire.....
