Hi John. I recently attended the Snap-on EOBD seminar chaired by our very own James Dillon. James gave a real good presentation on the info that is available through simple EOBD. When you next have a car in with a similar fault scenario, have a look at EOBD and see if there are any 'Pending Codes' these are codes that are stored when the vehicle sees a problem that is starting to develop, but is not yet frequent or severe enough to store a 'hard code'. There is a lot of info available through EOBD on year 2000/1 upward vehicles, and James gives a great presentation and definition of the uses of this info. If you ever get the chance to attend one of these, then I would definately recomend that you attend. All the best now, Gunner.
