Vauxhall Astra 1998 1.6 Ecotec - Holding back on light throttle and hard throttle Archived Message

By that I mean, If you have had one like this (or can think of something I have missed) you will be able to help. If not I'm going to tell the customer to go to a rolling road!

I dont know the engine code for certain since it has corroded away (as happens with GM ) but this is the ecotec with the 4 pronged coil-over-plug type coilpak.

Symptoms-kangeroo juice at light throttle. Cannot be reproduced unless driven. You can drive through it and there are no flat spots or holding back on hard acceleration. It is *only* when you try to maintain a constant speed on a level road.

    No fault codes!

Live data seems fine (Lambda switching a bit slow but at around 1/sec no worse than many I have seen with no obvious problems)

I have driven the car with my scanner connected (The multiscan has a limited "Graphing" capability and there do not seem to be any Gross discontinuities/anomilies in Lambda, MAP or TPS behavior even when the kangerooing is taking place (By limited I mean it is not picoscope! the graph is slow timebase with an image about 15mm high. It would be dificult to see anything subtle but an OC or SC condition would be obvious)

I thought I might be onto something when I found a small split in the vac hose leading to the Fuel pressure regulator but replacing it made no difererance.

I have the feeling that with picoscope, a rolling road and a gas tester it would be easy to suss but, alas, this is not an option (And no! I cant put Picoscope in the car and drive it since my set up is PC-Box based rather than Laptop)

any suggestion? This is one of those ones I would like to solve since it is "Interesting"
