Vauxhall Astra 1.8 1999 X18XE1 - Poor running and idle P0505 idle speed voltage high #Archived Message

Looked at this today for another garage who have fitted two new throttle bodies trying to cure poor running & an idle speed code. Had set P0505 Idle speed control voltage high, not present. Stepper motor operated correctly on actuator test. After a test drive MIL on, code P0505 present, no response on actuator test. Checked continuity to ECU, OK. Allow engine/ecu to cool and it comes back to life. Have a square wave when cool, flat line when hot. Is this common? Is there a bypass trick (like the air mass earth that is common)? Can these ECU's be repaired? Would relocating ECU to keep it cooler help? I am presuming the heat is conducted from engine rather than generated internally.
